And now, what you’ve all been waiting for:

Ta da:

FYI, here is what it looked like before (pay close attention to the nasty floor and “vanity”):

Sorry it took me so long to post these pictures. I was waiting until it was completely finished, which it now, thank God, is. Well, almost. We still have to attach the knobs to the cabinets. But we finished up the painting this weekend. Hooray!!

Also:

the whirlpool tub is very nice.

At least we know how to drive.

Here is another reason I’m proud to be from Iowa.

People from the Northeast and Mid-atlantic are apparently the most “clueless” when it comes to knowing basic driving rules.

Will will not be surprised to learn that Illinois drivers rank in the bottom ten.

A strong relationship with the Wookies I have.

As I watched the Star Wars movie yesterday (which I must say was quite good!), I had a few ideas:

1. When we build the world of the future, I think we should take a lesson from the Skywalker family and try not to build quite so many buildings/cities/death stars that include unprotected ledges and/or structures from which one may easily fall thousands of feet to his/her death.

2. Similarly, if we’re in the world of the future, I hope that along with all of the spaceships and crazy weapons and such that we will be able to produce shatter-proof glass.

3. When I have a three- to five-year old child (still technically in the world of the future, though presumably not quite so distant), and when I bring that child to the movie theater, I will make sure that he/she does not spend the entire movie kicking the shit out of the person in front of him/her.

Okay, Okay.

I’m very sorry I haven’ posted lately. I have heard about it from most of you in comments or in person. Let me see if I can condense the last few weeks into a short list of events; I’ll try to elaborate on the important ones in future posts.

1. The reason I never posted more about the bathroom was that it all worked for about 3 days, and then we noticed that there was water leaking into the basement. It turned out that when they installed the sink, the jiggled some pipe that then broke. So they had to uninstall the sink, rip out the wall around it, fix the pipe, fix the wall, re-attach the sink, etc. So it was kind of annoying and I didn’t want to post about it. But now you all know.

1.5. The bathroom is now nearly finished. Will and I just have to do some touch-up painting (and we have to re-paint the section of wall that was destroyed and rebuilt as per #1 above. I will post pictures as promised; I’m waiting for the painting to be finished.

2. Kalamazoo was pretty good. The ration of fun/intellecutally stimulating moments to terrifying/humbling moments was much better than last year. My paper went pretty well. There are some funny stories involving Matt H., Brian O., Katie L., and medievalists in general.

3. Ingrid’s graduation was exceedingly fun. You all should know that my sister graduated with honors AND with distinction. And Phi Beta Kappa. She pretty much rules. Also, waterslides were involved.

4. I have watched a lot of the West Wing this week, because there is a marathon going on on Bravo. The West Wing rules.

5. I have managed to get through 2 of my 3 interviews for leadership positions in the Writing Center for next year. I have not done any sort of interviewing since I was interviewing at colleges when I was 18, so it’s been sort of interesting (i.e. terrifying). I don’t think I’ve screwed up anything too badly, but I’ll keep you posted. My last one is tomorrow.

6. Tonight I went out to Barrique’s Wine Cave with some excellent ladies. Among other things we celebrated Dr. Tiffany’s near-simultaneous commencement and pregnancy (hooray!), Taryn and Kim’s impending weddings, and, well, the fact that Jean and I survived the semester for the most part unscathed. Huzzah!

7. Tomorrow is a big day. After my interview in the morning, I’ll be going to a matinee showing of the new Star Wars movie (I am cautiously optimistic) and then Taryn and I are watching the season finales of CSI and Without a Trace. I am pretty sure both wine and knitting will be involved.

So there you have it. I promise it won’t be quite as long between this post and the next.
